That question has been sitting with us in prayer, in planning, and in the quiet work of asking what stewardship looks like now.

Making what matters is always on our mind. And today we want to invite you to think even deeper about what that process looks like for you. Not as a brand idea. As a holy identity. You were created in the image of God — and that changes how we build a life.

Sacred Sunday: Created in His Image — Made to Make What Matters

Before there was a company, a collection, or a calendar, there was this: God made us in His image. That is the beginning of every true creative process. We do not create to prove we are valuable. We create because we already bear the likeness of the One who makes all things well.

Reflection

Genesis 1:27 is not a decorative verse. It is the foundation of human dignity and human calling. “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” The first thing Scripture tells us about ourselves is not what we produce. It is whose image we carry. That matters because a lot of people enter a new season asking the wrong first question. They ask, “What should I make of my life?” Scripture starts earlier: “Who made you?”

When we know we are image-bearers, creating stops being a personality trait and becomes obedience. God is a Creator. He speaks light into darkness. He brings order out of chaos. He forms dust into a living soul and calls it good. Then He gives His people a share in that work — not as rivals to His power, but as stewards of His world. Genesis 1:28 follows immediately with blessing and responsibility: be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. In other words, receive what God has made, then cultivate it with care.

Ephesians 2:10 carries that same truth into the life of a believer: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” The word behind handiwork is the language of a crafted work, a poem, something made with intention. You are not leftover material. You are not an interruption in God’s plan. You are His workmanship. And the good works in front of you are not random. They were prepared in advance. That means your creative process — whether it looks like parenting, pastoring, building a company, serving a classroom, writing a note, starting a ministry, or simply making peace in your home — can be holy ground.

This is where many of us get stuck. We think creating only counts if it is public, impressive, or profitable. Scripture never says that. Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” The audience of our work is God. That frees us from the pressure to perform and calls us into the privilege of faithfulness. A mother creating stability for her children is making what matters. A student creating habits of integrity is making what matters. A leader creating a culture of honor is making what matters. A believer creating space for prayer in a noisy week is making what matters.

Psalm 139:13-14 takes the truth even closer: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” God did not only create the universe. He created you with particularity. Your story, your temperament, your wounds, your gifts, your timing — none of it is accidental. That is why comparison is so spiritually expensive. It convinces image-bearers to abandon the good works prepared for them in order to imitate the assignment given to someone else.

Exodus shows us that God even fills people with skill for the work He assigns. In Exodus 31:1-5, the Lord says He has filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and all kinds of craftsmanship. The Spirit is not only present in preaching. He is present in making. He is present in design, in building, in excellence offered to God. Created to Create is not a trendy phrase. It is a biblical pattern: God calls, God fills, and God’s people make what serves His purpose.

And then there is Jesus. John 1:3 says, “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” The Son is not only Savior. He is the One through whom creation itself came into being. When we create in His name, we are not adding to the gospel. We are living in step with the One who makes all things new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us that if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has already begun. The most important creative work God does in us is the remaking of the heart. From that new heart come the good works that bless a family, a city, and a generation.

So what does the process look like for you? It may begin smaller than you think. Ask the Lord what He has already placed in your hands. Ask Him what needs to be cultivated, not just dreamed. Ask Him who you are becoming while you build. Psalm 127:1 still guards the whole journey: “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” Created to Create does not mean building faster. It means building with Him.

As we launch into this 9th year, that is the posture we want to keep. We want to keep creating value for you as you create your own beautiful life — through products that carry truth, blogs that return you to Scripture, and conversations with people who have built companies, families, and ministries the long way. In the coming months we will also be launching a series of courses on what we have learned about the creation process doing it God’s way, leadership in the boardroom and in the home, building deeper connections, and walking through issues from grief to anxiety and beyond. Our goal is not to add more noise. Our goal is to keep serving you well.
