Happy Wellness Wednesday!
We’re stepping softly into the beautiful bridge between seasons. As we wrap up our Grateful Hearts series and prepare to launch our new Summer’s Series Collection in just a few days, today feels like the perfect moment to talk about something essential: Summer Soul Care.
A special note today: This post is written with deep love and gratitude for my mom, Debra Musial. Mom, thank you for always modeling the beauty of rest and teaching me how to slow down and truly enjoy the gifts right in front of me. I’m forever thankful.
Wellness Wednesday: Summer Soul Care – Rest Before the Rush
Summer has a way of sneaking up on us. One minute we’re rushing through spring, and the next the days are longer, the pace feels faster, and our calendars can quickly fill up.
Before the barbecues, travel, and summer busyness take over, God is gently inviting us into something countercultural: rest before the rush.
This isn’t lazy rest. It’s holy, life-giving soul care — the kind that restores us so we can show up more present, more peaceful, and more whole for the people we love.
Mini Sermon Reflection: The Invitation of Matthew 11:28
Jesus spoke these beautiful words in Matthew 11:28:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
This is one of the most tender invitations in the entire Bible. Notice who Jesus is speaking to — not the strong, the put-together, or the ones who have it all figured out. He’s speaking to the weary. The burdened. The exhausted. The ones carrying heavy loads.
In the original language, the word for “weary” means exhausted from prolonged labor, and “burdened” refers to a crushing load that’s too heavy to carry alone. Sound familiar as we head into summer?
Jesus doesn’t say “Come to me after you’ve finished everything on your list.”
He doesn’t say “Come to me once you’ve earned it.”
He simply says, “Come to me… and I will give you rest.”
This rest isn’t just physical sleep. It’s soul rest — the deep kind that quiets anxiety, releases pressure, and realigns our hearts with God’s gentle rhythm. It’s the rest that says it’s okay to slow down. It’s okay to breathe. It’s okay to not do it all.
In the verses that follow (Matthew 11:29-30), Jesus adds, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
This summer, we don’t have to carry the weight of perfection, productivity, or proving ourselves. We’re invited to walk in step with a gentle Savior whose burden is light.
Christian Faith Points
- Jesus personally invites the weary to come and find rest in Him first (Matthew 11:28).
- Soul rest is holy work — not laziness, but wise stewardship of the life God gave us.
- God Himself modeled rest and built it into creation’s rhythm (Genesis 2:2-3).
- When we rest in God, we become better able to love our families and enjoy the summer season.
- True rest restores our souls and prepares us to bloom well (Psalm 23:2-3).
Your Wellness Wednesday Story
Take a gentle moment today. Ask yourself honestly: What does my soul need most as summer begins? More sleep? More time outside? More quiet with God? More grace with myself? Write down one small way you can practice soul care this week. Speak today’s mantra over it: “Rest is holy work.”
Practical Tools: Summer Soul Care Practices
- Morning Soul Pause. Spend 5–10 minutes outside with your coffee or tea — no phone, just presence.
- Digital Sunset. Set a gentle evening cutoff for screens to protect your rest.
- Weekly Sabbath Moment. Choose one hour this week that belongs only to rest and renewal.
- Body + Soul Check-in. Ask yourself daily: “What do I need today — physically, emotionally, spiritually?”
- Engraving Anchor. Our upcoming Summer’s Series collection will include beautiful, light messages designed to support these soul-care rhythms.
Prayer or Reflection
Father, thank You for this Wellness Wednesday and the gift of summer ahead. Thank You for inviting us to rest in You. Help us release the pressure to do it all and embrace the holy work of caring for our souls. Teach us to slow down, breathe deeply, and trust that You are working even in our rest. We come to You weary and ready to receive Your gentle peace. Amen.
Commitment / Pledge
Today, on this Wellness Wednesday, I commit to practicing summer soul care. I will not rush into the season exhausted. Instead, I choose to create space for rest, renewal, and connection with God. May these gentle rhythms help me show up more present and more whole this summer.
