Happy Sacred Sunday! 🙏

There’s a special stillness that settles on this day — a gentle reminder to slow down, worship, and listen. As we continue our Prep Week for the Good Day Summer Series, today feels like the perfect time to sit with one of the most beautiful and challenging promises Jesus ever gave us.

“Summer is a blank slate. With God’s help, you get to write a beautiful story — one thankful thought, one good day, and one faithful choice at a time.”

Sacred Sunday: Blessed Are Those Who Hunger and Thirst

This past weekend, a powerful sermon on the Beatitudes stirred something deep in my heart — especially the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:6:

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

These words are not just a nice idea. They are an invitation into a completely different way of living — a filled life instead of an empty one.

Reflection

When Jesus spoke these words, He wasn’t speaking to people who were already full and satisfied. He was speaking to the weary, the seeking, and the spiritually hungry. He was offering them something radical: a promise that their deepest longings could actually be satisfied — not by chasing after the things the world offers, but by pursuing righteousness with everything they had.

This promise carries both incredible hope and a loving challenge. It invites us to examine the appetite of our souls.

Throughout the sermon, three powerful truths about spiritual hunger stood out to me:

First, our souls were created with an appetite that only God can satisfy.
We were made for more than surface-level living. There is a holy hunger placed inside every person — a longing for what is right, pure, good, and eternal. When we try to satisfy that hunger with money, success, approval, entertainment, or anything else the world offers, we eventually end up emptier than when we started. Only righteousness — right relationship with God and right living — can truly fill the God-shaped hole in our hearts.

Second, hunger must become intentional, not occasional.
It’s easy to drift through life with a casual faith — showing up when it’s convenient, praying when we need something, opening the Bible only when we feel like it. But Jesus is calling us to something deeper. He’s inviting us to develop a consistent, passionate hunger for Him. A hunger that doesn’t wait for inspiration, but actively pursues God every single day. This kind of hunger doesn’t happen by accident — it is cultivated through daily choices.

Third, true satisfaction comes to those who refuse to settle.
The world tells us to be content with “good enough.” Jesus calls us higher. He says the blessed life belongs to those who refuse to be satisfied with anything less than God’s best. Those who keep pressing in. Those who keep thirsting. Those who keep hungering even when it would be easier to settle. That persistent hunger is what positions us to be filled again and again.

This is the heart behind the Good Day Summer Series. Starting next Wednesday, June 3, we begin weekly drops designed to support you in living with this kind of holy hunger. Each week will bring fresh inspiration and practical tools to help you pursue righteousness and stay spiritually full all summer long.

The beautiful promise is this: God is not stingy. He delights in filling hungry hearts. The more we hunger for Him, the more He pours out His presence, peace, joy, and power in our lives.

This Prep Week is sacred preparation time. It’s our opportunity to quiet our souls, examine our appetites, and say “yes” to the kind of hunger that leads to real blessing and fullness.

Christian Faith Points

  • God blesses and fills those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.
  • Our souls were made for God — nothing else will truly satisfy.
  • Hunger is not weakness — it is the pathway to blessing.
  • Consistent pursuit of God leads to a consistently filled life.
  • This summer can be marked by spiritual fullness if we choose it.
  • Holy hunger is contagious — it inspires others to seek God too.
  • The best is yet to come for those who keep pressing in.

Your Sacred Sunday Story
Take some extended, unhurried time today in God’s presence and ask Him these questions:

  • Lord, what have I been settling for instead of hungering for You?
  • What would a life of true spiritual hunger look like for me this summer?
  • Will You increase my hunger for righteousness?

Sit with Him. Listen. Write down what He puts on your heart.

Practical Tools for a Hungry & Filled Summer

  • Set a consistent daily time to seek God’s face.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to stir up fresh hunger in you every morning.
  • Remove or limit things that dull your spiritual appetite.
  • Surround yourself with people who are also hungry for God.
  • Practice quick obedience whenever God speaks to you.

Heavenly Father, thank You for this Sacred Sunday. Thank You for the promise that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled.
