Hey Inspiration Co. family,
We have an incredibly moving story to share with you today. We continue sharing the real, vulnerable, and hope-filled stories that poured in from our Inspiration Nation during the Beauty After the Storm series. Each testimony reminds us that no storm is wasted and that God meets us right in the middle of our hardest seasons with grace, wisdom, and gentle guidance.
Today’s special engraving (available only today, April 9, 2026): BE STILL. GOD IS WORKING.
Sherrillan’s Story
A few years ago, Sherrillan Atkinson watched her life feel like it was unraveling right before her eyes. She faced financial hardship, deep disappointment in relationships, the pain of divorce, and the daily demands of raising her children as a full-time single mom. On top of everything, she had to confront painful parts of her past that she had ignored for years.
For a while, she tried to fix everything on her own. She pushed harder, planned more, and tried to control the chaos. But the more she strived, the more overwhelmed and exhausted she became. Eventually, she reached a breaking point where all she could do was surrender and seek God more deeply than she ever had before.
That difficult season changed her. Through consistent prayer, fasting, journaling, and quiet moments with God, Sherrillan realized the storm wasn’t sent to destroy her — it was meant to root her deeper in faith and teach her to trust Him even when she couldn’t see what He was doing.
The scripture that carried her through was Psalm 46:10:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
The simple yet powerful words that anchored her were:
“Be still. God is working.”
“Be still. God is working.”
Those words reminded her that even in the silence, even in the waiting and the uncertainty, God was still moving behind the scenes on her behalf. They gave her permission to stop striving and start trusting.
Reflection: Be Still. God Is Working.
Sherrillan’s story is an invitation into one of the most countercultural and life-giving practices of the Christian faith: learning to be still when everything around us feels like it is falling apart. When life unravels — when finances crumble, relationships break, roles shift dramatically, and old wounds rise to the surface — our natural response is often to panic, strive, fix, control, or run. We want answers. We want the pain to stop. We want to make it better quickly. We believe that if we just work harder or figure it out, we can regain control.
But sometimes the most faithful and powerful thing we can do is simply be still.“Be still” does not mean doing nothing. It does not mean giving up or being passive. It means quieting the frantic noise of fear and self-reliance long enough to remember who God is. It means releasing our tight grip on outcomes so we can hear His gentle voice. It means choosing trust over striving, surrender over control, and peace over panic.
Psalm 46:10 was written in a context of real turmoil. Nations were in uproar. Kingdoms were falling. The earth was shaking. Yet God’s word to His people was not “Hurry up and fix this” or “Work harder to make it right.” His word was “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Sherrillan discovered the freedom and peace that come when we obey this invitation. When she stopped trying to control every detail and instead surrendered her brokenness, her fears, and her future to God, something profound shifted inside her. The storm didn’t instantly disappear, but her heart found a new anchor. She learned to trust in the middle of the unknown. She learned that God was working in the silence — healing old wounds, reshaping her perspective, strengthening her faith, and preparing her for a new season of life.
This is the heart of Thoughtful Thursday: sometimes the deepest transformation does not happen through more effort, but through holy stillness. When we quiet our souls and declare, “Be still. God is working,” we create space for God to do what only He can do.
If you are in a season right now where life feels like it is unraveling — financial pressure, relational pain, parenting challenges, past wounds resurfacing, health struggles, or any other storm — hear this gentle but firm invitation today:
Be still.
God is working. He is working in the waiting.
He is working in the silence.
He is working in the pain you cannot yet understand.
He is working for your good and for His glory.
God is working. He is working in the waiting.
He is working in the silence.
He is working in the pain you cannot yet understand.
He is working for your good and for His glory.
You do not have to have it all figured out today.
You do not have to carry the weight alone.
You only need to be still and know that He is God.
You do not have to carry the weight alone.
You only need to be still and know that He is God.
On this Thoughtful Thursday, let today’s engraving serve as your anchor. When anxiety rises, when fear whispers lies, when the urge to strive or fix overwhelms you — pause, breathe, and whisper:
“Be still. God is working.”
He was working for Sherrillan.
He is working for you.
He is working for you.
The storm may still be raging, but the God who calms seas and moves mountains is quietly, faithfully at work behind the scenes. Trust Him enough to be still.
Christian Faith Points
- God invites us into holy stillness so we can truly know that He is God, especially when life feels chaotic and out of control (Psalm 46:10).
- Striving and self-reliance often increase our overwhelm; surrender opens the door to His peace that surpasses understanding.
- Even when we cannot see what God is doing, He is faithfully working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).
- Stillness is not passivity — it is active trust in the One who holds every detail of our lives.
- God often does His deepest work in us during the seasons that feel like they are unraveling.
- When we choose to be still, we make room for God to heal, restore, strengthen, and redirect us according to His perfect purposes.
- Daily stillness pause. Set aside 5–10 minutes each day to simply be still — no phone, no agenda — and repeat “Be still. God is working.”
- Surrender list. Write down the things you’ve been trying to control or fix, then prayerfully hand each one over to God.
- Scripture anchor. Keep Psalm 46:10 visible and read it slowly whenever anxiety, fear, or overwhelm begins to rise.
- One intentional release. Choose one specific area this week where you will intentionally stop striving and practice trust instead.
- Engraving reminder. Wear or carry today’s engraving as a tangible reminder to return to stillness and trust throughout your day.
