Sacred Sunday: The Beauty of God’s Gifts – Choosing to See Life Through His Eyes

“Life Is Beautiful” is not simply about noticing pretty things. It is a faith-filled invitation to see life through God’s eyes — with wonder, gratitude, grace, and love. It is a call to recognize that every good and perfect gift comes from above (James 1:17) and to live with open eyes and an open heart to the beauty God has placed all around us.

This is the deeper purpose behind this week’s engraving and challenge. It’s calling us to a higher way of living.

Reflection
In our fast-paced world, it is easy to rush through our days and miss the quiet miracles God has placed right in front of us. We focus on problems, deadlines, and difficulties, and we overlook the beauty of His gifts — a child’s laugh, the way sunlight hits the water, a kind word from a stranger, the peace that comes after a deep breath in nature, or the simple joy of a shared meal.

The Bible repeatedly calls us to see life through the lens of God’s goodness. Psalm 19:1 declares, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Creation itself is constantly preaching the beauty of its Creator. When we slow down and truly see, we are not just admiring nature — we are encountering the heart of God.

Throughout the New Testament, we see powerful examples of people whose eyes were opened to see life, and others, through God’s eyes. These stories remind us that choosing to see beauty is both a gift and a discipline.

Three New Testament Stories of Seeing Through God’s Eyes

1. The Woman with the Alabaster Jar (Mark 14:3-9) While Jesus was in Bethany, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on Jesus’ head. Many in the room were indignant and called it a waste. But Jesus saw something completely different. He saw her act as beautiful. He said, “She has done a beautiful thing to me” (Mark 14:6). In a moment when others saw waste and extravagance, Jesus saw worship and love. He saw her heart. This story teaches us that true beauty is often found in sacrificial love and extravagant devotion — not in what the world values. When we choose to see life as beautiful, we begin to see the beauty in others’ acts of love and worship too.

2. Jesus and Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10) Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector — short in stature and even shorter in reputation. People despised him. But when Jesus came to Jericho, He looked up into the sycamore tree where Zacchaeus was hiding and said, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” Everyone else saw a sinner and a cheat. Jesus saw a man worth saving. He saw beauty and dignity in someone the world had written off. That day, Zacchaeus’s life was transformed. This story shows us that when we see others through God’s eyes, we see worth, potential, and beauty where the world sees none. Choosing to see life as beautiful includes choosing to see people as beautiful — made in the image of God.

3. The Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35) After Jesus’ crucifixion, two disciples were walking to Emmaus, hearts heavy with grief and confusion. Jesus joined them on the road, but they did not recognize Him. As they walked and talked, He opened the Scriptures to them and explained everything concerning Himself. When they finally sat down to eat, Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them. At that moment, “their eyes were opened and they recognized him” (Luke 24:31). In an instant, their sorrow turned to joy. They saw Jesus clearly for the first time. This story reminds us that sometimes we walk through life blind to the beauty and presence of God right beside us. But when our eyes are opened — through His Word, through prayer, through community, or through simple acts of gratitude — everything changes. We begin to see that He has been with us all along.

These three stories show us that seeing life as beautiful is not passive. It is an active choice to look with eyes of faith. It is a decision to see God’s hand, God’s love, and God’s beauty even in ordinary or painful moments.

This is why the challenges this week are so powerful:

• Spending time in nature helps us see God’s creation with fresh eyes.
• Taking photos of beautiful moments trains us to notice His gifts.
• Telling someone they matter reflects the way Jesus saw Zacchaeus.
• Journaling what makes life beautiful becomes an act of worship.

When we choose to see life through God’s eyes, we discover that beauty is not something we have to find — it is something we get to receive and celebrate every single day.

Prayer or Reflection 
Father, thank You for this Sacred Sunday. Thank You that life is beautiful because of You. Open our eyes to see Your gifts all around us — in creation, in people, and in the ordinary moments of our days. Help us live with wonder, gratitude, and faith. May we see life the way You see it, and may our lives reflect Your beauty and love. Amen.
