Wellness Wednesday: Walking with God Through the Day

Wellness Wednesday: Walking with God Through the Day

Wednesday lands in the middle of winter — the days are short, the air is sharp, and the world feels like it’s asking us to hurry up and stay inside.

But God doesn’t just call us to endure the season.
He calls us to walk through it — with Him.
Walking is one of the simplest, most ancient forms of wellness:
  • Spiritually: taking steps of trust.
  • Physically: moving the body God gave us.
  • Emotionally: moving forward even when we don’t feel like it.
Jesus didn’t stay static.
He walked everywhere — dusty roads, stormy seasides, crowded streets.
He walked with people who were hurting, doubting, hoping.
And He still walks with us today.
Luke 24:13-35 tells one of the most tender stories of Jesus walking with us.
Two disciples are heading to Emmaus, about 7 miles from Jerusalem.
They’re devastated — Jesus has been crucified.
Their hopes are crushed.
They’re talking, grieving, trying to make sense of it all.
Then a stranger joins them on the road.
He asks what they’re discussing.
They tell Him everything — the crucifixion, the empty tomb, the confusion.
The stranger listens, then begins explaining the Scriptures, showing how the Messiah had to suffer and rise.
Their hearts start burning as He speaks.
They don’t recognize Him yet — but they feel something stirring.
When they reach Emmaus, they urge Him to stay.
He does.
At the table, He takes bread, blesses it, breaks it, and gives it to them.
In that moment, their eyes are opened — it’s Jesus.
He vanishes.

And they say to each other: “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32, NIV).
They get up immediately and walk back to Jerusalem — 7 miles, in the dark, full of joy.
They were walking with Jesus the whole time — even when they didn’t know it.
He was listening.
He was teaching.
He was close.
And when they finally saw Him, they couldn’t sit still — they had to move, to share, to go tell the others.
That’s the kind of wellness God offers us:
not just sitting in peace,
but walking in it — step by step, with Him beside us.
When life feels cold, when the road feels long, when we’re grieving or confused — Jesus is already walking with us.
He’s listening to our conversation.
He’s opening Scripture to us.
He’s stirring our hearts.
And when we recognize Him, we can’t help but move forward with joy.
So here are the gentle questions only you can answer today:
  • Where in your life do you feel like you’re walking alone right now?
  • What would it feel like to believe Jesus is already walking beside you — even if you don’t “feel” Him yet?
  • What one small step could you take today to walk with Him — a literal walk outside, a prayer as you move through your day, a kind word to someone else on their own road?
This is the wellness God actually wants for you:

not perfection,
not constant high energy,
but a steady walk with Him — spirit, body, and heart moving forward together.
Christian Faith Points: Walking with Jesus
  • Jesus Walks with Us in Our Confusion
The Emmaus disciples didn’t recognize Him at first — but He walked with them anyway. Christians are reminded God meets us in our doubt; newcomers see faith as companionship, not just rules.
  • Jesus Opens Scripture as We Walk
Their hearts burned as He explained the Scriptures (Luke 24:32). Christians are refreshed to let the Word come alive in daily life; those new to faith discover Scripture as a living conversation with God.
  • Jesus Is Revealed in the Breaking of Bread
He was known in the familiar act of blessing and breaking bread (Luke 24:35). Christians celebrate communion as a reminder of His presence; newcomers see faith as something tangible, shared, and relational.
Easy Wellness Practices: Walking with God

Here are three simple practices to nurture spiritual, physical, and emotional wellness, affirming “You walk with me, Lord — and that’s enough”:
  • Spiritual: Walking Prayer
Take 5–10 minutes to walk (even indoors if it’s too cold) and pray one sentence per step: “Lord, You are with me.” Let it sink in — He’s walking beside you right now.
  • Physical: 15-Minute Gentle Walk
Bundle up (or pace inside) and walk slowly for 15 minutes. Notice your breath, your footsteps, the air. Thank God for the body that carries you. No rush, no goal — just movement and gratitude.
  • Emotional: “Heart Burn” Reflection
At the end of the day, sit for 5 minutes and ask: “Where did my heart burn today — where did I feel God close?” Write one sentence. Let it remind you: He was there, even if you didn’t notice at the time.
Real-Life Stories of Walking with God
  1. U.S. Mom’s Winter Walks of Trust (USA)
Sarah Thompson, 38, from Minnesota, faced a brutal January 2026 cold snap — pipes frozen, kids home from school, her own anxiety rising with the heating bills. She felt stuck, overwhelmed, and spiritually dry. One morning Psalm 23:4 whispered to her: “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”
She started small: bundling up and walking around the block each day, praying one sentence per step: “You are with me.” The walks didn’t fix the cold, but they changed her. She began noticing small mercies — neighbors checking on each other, kids laughing in the snow, moments of quiet with God. Sarah says: “I used to think I had to wait for better weather to feel close to God. He showed me He was walking with me in the cold the whole time.”
  2. Indian Father’s Daily Walks with His Son (India)
Raj Patel, 45, from Bangalore, lost his job in late 2025. The family tightened the budget, and he felt like he was failing his 12-year-old son, Arjun. One evening he read Luke 24:15 — Jesus walking with the disciples — and decided to start walking with Arjun every night after dinner.
No big talks at first — just walking, breathing, pointing out stars or street dogs. Slowly they began sharing: Arjun’s school worries, Raj’s job search fears. Raj prayed silently as they walked: “Lord, walk with us.” The walks became a ritual — father and son, hand in hand, trusting God one step at a time. Arjun’s confidence grew. Raj found peace in being present. Raj says: “I thought I needed to provide answers. God showed me I just needed to walk with my son — and He was walking with us.”
  3. Australian Nurse’s Shift Walks for Emotional Release (Australia)
Emma Clarke, 40, a Sydney nurse, worked long shifts during a 2025 winter surge. She felt emotionally numb — giving care all day but having nothing left for herself. Isaiah 30:21 came to her: “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”
She started taking 10-minute walks during breaks — no phone, just walking the hospital corridors or the parking lot, listening for God’s voice. She breathed in “This is the way,” breathed out the stress. Over weeks, the numbness thawed. She began smiling more with patients, crying with colleagues who needed it, feeling alive again. Emma says: “I thought I had to push through. God showed me I just had to walk with Him — and He would lead me.”
