Feel Good Friday: The Small Things That Mean the Most

Happy Feel Good Friday!
As we continue our Grateful Hearts series leading up to Mother’s Day, today we’re focusing on something simple, tender, and surprisingly powerful: the small things that mean the most.In the busyness of life, it’s easy to overlook the quiet, consistent acts of love that shape us. A favorite meal made just the way you like it. A note left on the counter. The way she remembered your favorite song. The gentle hand on your shoulder when you were nervous. The late-night talks that made you feel seen.
These small things often leave the deepest imprint on our hearts.
Today we celebrate them — especially the small ways mothers and mother-figures have loved us, even if imperfectly. And we invite gratitude to rise as we remember.
Feel Good Friday: The Small Things That Mean the Most
Some of the most powerful expressions of love aren’t grand gestures or expensive gifts. They’re the small, everyday moments that say, “I see you. I care about you. You matter to me.”
A mother who stayed up late sewing a costume for the school play.
A grandmother who always saved the last cookie for you.

A mom who quietly prayed for you every night, even when you didn’t know it.

A mother-figure who remembered your favorite color and surprised you with it years later.
These seemingly ordinary acts often carry extraordinary weight. They tell us we are loved, we are known, and we are worth the effort.
In the Grateful Hearts series, we’re learning that gratitude has the power to heal what words sometimes cannot. And one of the sweetest ways gratitude shows up is when we pause long enough to remember and appreciate the small things.
Many of us carry complicated feelings around Mother’s Day. Some relationships were beautiful and nurturing. Others were painful, distant, or marked by absence. But even in the most imperfect stories, there are usually small moments of love that still live in our memories — a kind word, a shared laugh, a moment of protection, or simply someone showing up when it mattered.Gratitude doesn’t require us to rewrite history or pretend everything was perfect. It simply invites us to notice the threads of goodness that were woven in anyway.
When we choose to remember the small things with thankful hearts, something beautiful happens:
  • We begin to see God’s kindness reflected in human love.
  • We find healing for places that still feel tender.
  • We become more aware of the small ways we can love others today.
The Bible encourages this kind of focused gratitude. Philippians 4:8 tells us to think about whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. When we intentionally remember the small, lovely moments — even from imperfect relationships — we train our hearts to look for goodness instead of only what was missing.
Jesus noticed the small things too. He saw the widow’s two small coins and said her gift was greater than all the others (Mark 12:41-44). He noticed children when others pushed them away. He paid attention to the quiet acts of faith and love around Him.
On this Feel Good Friday, let’s do the same.
Think back to one small thing — maybe something your mom, grandmother, or a mother-figure did for you that still warms your heart when you remember it. It doesn’t have to be perfect or dramatic. It just has to be real.
Let gratitude rise for that moment.
Let it remind you that love was there, even if it wasn’t everything you needed.
Let it soften any hard places and fill you with quiet joy.
And if you’re a mother yourself, take a moment to celebrate the small things you do every day for your children — the meals, the rides, the listening, the praying, the showing up. Those small things matter more than you know.
