CAST YOUR CARES ON HIM – Psalm 55:22
This Good Friday is the most solemn day of Holy Week. It is the day we remember Jesus’ passion, His betrayal, scourging, mocking, and crucifixion. It is the day the sky went dark, the earth shook, and the Son of God gave His life for the sins of the world.
In the shadow of the cross, today’s engraving offers tender, life-giving hope: You do not have to carry your cares alone. The same Jesus who carried the crossbeam on His bleeding shoulders now invites you to cast every burden, every worry, every grief, and every fear onto Him.On this Feel Good Friday — even in its solemnity — we are invited to release what we cannot bear and find the quiet, sustaining peace that flows from the finished work of the cross.
Reflection: Cast Your Cares on Him – A Good Friday Invitation to Release and Rest
Good Friday is not “feel good” in the lighthearted sense. It is the day we stand at the foot of the cross and remember the unimaginable cost of our freedom. We remember the betrayal in the garden, the unfair trials, the brutal scourging, the crown of thorns, the nails driven into hands and feet, the mocking, the darkness that covered the land from noon until three, and the final cry, “It is finished” (John 19:30).
Jesus was pressed beyond measure. He carried the weight of every sin, every shame, every sickness, and every care that would ever burden humanity. He bore it all so that we would not have to carry it alone.
Into this sacred, heartbreaking day, Psalm 55:22 speaks with gentle authority: “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
The Hebrew word for “cast” is hashlik, which means to throw, to hurl, or to fling something away with force. It is not a polite handing over. It is an active, decisive release. God is not asking us to gently place our worries in His hands — He is inviting us to throw them with all our might onto the One who already carried the cross for us.
This invitation is especially powerful on Good Friday because we are looking directly at the cross where Jesus literally carried the greatest burden the world has ever known. If He was willing to carry our sin and guilt to Calvary, how much more is He willing to carry our daily cares, anxieties, fears, and sorrows?
Jesus Himself modeled this complete surrender in the Garden of Gethsemane. Facing the cross, He prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39). Even in the deepest agony, He cast His will, His fear, and His suffering onto the Father.
Later, the Apostle Peter — who witnessed the events of Good Friday firsthand — would write these beautiful words: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Peter had seen Jesus carry the cross. He had seen the nails. He had seen the love. And from that reality he could confidently tell every believer: Throw your anxiety on Him — because He cares.
The cross proves it.
When we look at Jesus hanging there, we see the ultimate demonstration that God is not distant from our pain. He entered it. He carried it. He died in it. And because He rose three days later, our cares are met with resurrection power.
This Good Friday reflection invites us to name the specific cares we are carrying right now:
- The care of a broken relationship
- The care of financial pressure
- The care of health concerns
- The care of grief that still lingers
- The care of anxiety about the future
- The care of feeling not enough
Because the hands that were nailed to the cross are the same hands now open to receive every burden you fling toward Him. The shoulders that carried the crossbeam are the same shoulders strong enough to carry you and everything that concerns you.
Additional Scriptures that deepen this Good Friday truth:
- Matthew 11:28-30 — “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
- Isaiah 53:4-5 — “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering… and by his wounds we are healed.” (The Suffering Servant prophecy fulfilled on this very day.)
- Psalm 34:18 — “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
- 1 Peter 5:7 — “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
- Philippians 4:6-7 — “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
- Hebrews 4:15-16 — “We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses… Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence.”
- John 19:30 — “When he had received the drink, Jesus said, ‘It is finished.’ With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” The ultimate release.
You do not have to hold it together today.
You do not have to be strong in your own power.
You are allowed to feel the weight — and then cast it.
You do not have to be strong in your own power.
You are allowed to feel the weight — and then cast it.
Because the One who hung on the cross for you is the same One who rose — and who now holds you.
Let this engraving become your quiet prayer today:
Cast your cares on Him.
Christian Faith Points
- Good Friday proves God cares deeply — He carried our greatest burden on the cross (Isaiah 53:4-5).
- We are invited to actively throw every care onto the Lord, not carry it alone (Psalm 55:22; 1 Peter 5:7).
- Jesus understands our weakness and invites us to find rest in Him (Matthew 11:28-30; Hebrews 4:15-16).
- The cross brings peace that guards our hearts even when life feels crushing (Philippians 4:6-7).
- What feels heavy to us is not heavy to the One who conquered death (John 19:30).
In a small coastal town in Florida, Maria — a 52-year-old widow — carried the heavy care of loneliness and financial fear after losing her husband. Every Good Friday she would sit quietly and read the crucifixion story. One year, the words of Psalm 55:22 pierced her heart. She began to literally write her fears on paper and “cast” them into a basket at the foot of a wooden cross in her home.
Over time, a deep peace replaced her constant anxiety. She now says, “The cross showed me Jesus carried everything for me. I finally learned to cast my cares on Him — and He has sustained me ever since.”
In another story from Ohio, USA, James — a 47-year-old father — battled severe anxiety and guilt after a business failure that affected his family. On a Good Friday service, as the cross was lifted high, he felt the Lord whisper, “Cast it on Me.” He surrendered the shame and fear he had carried for years. The peace that followed was tangible. He still wears a small cross as a daily reminder: “I cast my cares on Him, and He has never let me be shaken.”
Your Feel Good Friday Story
On this solemn yet hope-filled Good Friday, take time to name the cares weighing on your heart. Write them down if it helps. Then, in a quiet act of release, speak or pray today’s engraving over each one: “I cast this care on You, Lord.” Feel the gentle invitation of the cross — the same cross where Jesus carried it all for you.
Practical Tools: Casting Your Cares on Good Friday
- Written release. Write your cares on paper and prayerfully “cast” them at the foot of a cross (physical or imagined).
- Breath prayer. Inhale: “Cast my cares…” Exhale: “…on Him.”
- Good Friday pause. Spend 10–15 minutes simply sitting with the cross and releasing burdens.
- Surrender declaration. Speak Psalm 55:22 out loud several times today.
- Verse anchor. Carry today’s engraving as a constant reminder to keep casting.
Lord Jesus, on this Good Friday we stand in awe of what You carried for us. You were pressed, wounded, and crucified so we could be free. Today I cast every care, every fear, every grief, and every burden onto You. I cannot carry them alone. Thank You for sustaining me. Thank You for never letting me be shaken. As I remember Your sacrifice, fill me with the peace that only comes from the foot of the cross. I cast my cares on You because You care for me. Amen.
Commitment / Pledge
Today, on Good Friday, I commit to casting my cares on the Lord. I will not carry what Jesus already carried for me on the cross. I will release my burdens into His hands and trust Him to sustain me. May this act of surrender bring me peace and anchor me in changing the world one wrist at a time.
